Preparing formula carefully

A consistent routine starts with clean equipment and the exact directions on your container.

General information for parents and carers. For advice about your baby’s feeding needs, speak with your doctor, child health nurse or dietitian.

Start with the container

Check the date mark and that the container is in good condition. Read the preparation directions each time you begin a different product: scoop sizes and mixing instructions can vary.

Keep the routine precise

Wash your hands, clean the preparation surface and use sterilised feeding equipment. Use safe drinking water that has been boiled and cooled, as directed on the product. Measure the water and powder exactly and use only the scoop supplied with that formula.

Do not change the powder-to-water ratio or add other foods unless your healthcare professional has specifically instructed you to do so.

Prepare, feed and store safely

Prepare one bottle at a time and use it immediately where possible. Check the feed's temperature before offering it. Discard unfinished feed and follow the container's storage instructions. Never use a microwave to warm a bottle.

For a premature baby or a baby with medical needs, ask your healthcare team for preparation advice suited to your situation.
